"Big Barry on Campus" is the first segment of the fifth episode of the first season of Kiff. It is the ninth segment overall.
Synopsis[]
A computer error moves Barry into high school, forcing Kiff to follow.
Plot[]
In Principal Secretary's office, Helen complains that her Table Town Middle School ID lists her age as 712 and demands that the error be fixed, but he tells her that special requests cannot be entertained. While he is away, Helen has her computer gremlin enter the operating system in Principal Secretary's laptop, edit Helen's file to change her age to 217, and print her a new ID. Satisfied, Helen takes a nap, but forgets about her gremlin. Stuck inside the system, the gremlin randomly opens the file containing Miss Deer Teacher's class list and does yoga inside the file to pass the time, accidentally kicking Barry's name off the class list and into the file containing the list of Table Town High School students.
Principal Secretary visits Miss Deer Teacher's classroom to escort Barry to Table Town High School, despite Kiff's insistence that Barry is not actually a high schooler. Barry assures Kiff that he could never last in high school and that he should be back in middle school by the end of the day. Later, Trevor offers to be Kiff's temporary best friend, but he grosses her out with his eating habits. In drama class, Kiff's performance confuses the entire class because Barry, her scene partner, is not there to deliver his lines. Meanwhile, Barry has his first high school class and to his surprise, he is quickly accepted by his classmates. At the end of the day, Kiff visits Table Town High School to see Barry, only to find him leaving in a car with his new high school friends. She decides that she has no choice but to also move up to high school.
The next day, Kiff, dressed in teen attire, goes to Table Town High School and is happily reunited with Barry. The two are initially excited to be in high school, but soon find themselves hating the experience. In art class, they come up with a plan to get sent back to middle school. They meet Principal Secretary in his office and show him their crudely painted self-portraits as proof that they are too immature to be in high school. The paintings are judged by Miss Tulane, who finds Barry's immature but praises Kiff's as having a "naive sophistication" worthy of a college-level artist. Principal Secretary thus decides to send Barry to kindergarten and Kiff to art college, and updates their records on his laptop.
As a last resort, Kiff tries to snatch the laptop. While Kiff and Principal Secretary fight over the laptop, Helen's gremlin is rocked back and forth inside and bumps into several files, causing Helen to be assigned to replace Miss Deer Teacher and Trevor to be made principal. Noticing this, Principal Secretary seeks IT assistance from Secretary Prince, who extracts the gremlin. The gremlin identifies Helen as his boss, so the others make Helen perform a spell to reboot the laptop and bring everything back to normal. Back in drama class, Kiff and Barry finally get to perform their scene together.
