"Brunch DJ" is the first segment of the third episode of the first season of Kiff. It is the fifth segment overall.
Synopsis[]
Kiff and Barry investigate where Barry's brother goes when he skips class.
Plot[]
During drama class, Kiff and Barry become concerned that Harry is skipping school when Kiff spots Harry sneaking out the window of his classroom. Principal Secretary, who has been listening in on their conversation, calls Kiff and Barry outside and assigns them to investigate Harry's whereabouts, giving them special "all passes" that permit them to visit any location in Table Town during school hours.
Kiff and Barry first visit Harry's classroom at Table Town High School. They climb out the window and follow Harry's footprints, eventually coming across a flyer for Café Penguino's Tuesday brunch, which begins at 11:30 a.m. and features live DJing by "DJ 11:30". The two spot Harry entering Café Penguino and attempt to find him inside. During DJ 11:30's performance, the strap of Barry's pass gets caught on a waiter's tray, dragging Kiff and Barry across the room and causing them to crash into the waiter. The tray flies into the air and knocks off DJ 11:30's helmet, revealing that he is Harry.
Kiff is torn by the revelation, as she respects Harry's passion for DJing but does not approve of him skipping school. She tries to talk Harry into coming back to school with them and offers to create an alibi for him, but Harry refuses to return, as the Tuesday brunch is his only chance to DJ in front of an audience. In response, Kiff sings to Harry about the merits of staying in school to get him to change his mind. Principal Secretary then unexpectedly arrives, having tracked Kiff and Barry's location through bugs hidden in the passes, and expels Harry from school for repeated truancy.
Harry defends himself through song, saying that he is simply a kid following his calling. Joining in on the song, Principal Secretary admits that he can relate to Harry, yet he still refuses to reverse Harry's expulsion. Flam Bingo, a renowned music agent, then takes the stage and says that while he is interested in being Harry's agent, he refuses to sign dropouts as clients. Seeing Harry's disappointment, Flam Bingo confronts Principal Secretary and intimidates him into unexpelling Harry. To prevent further truancy, Harry agrees to DJ during Sunday brunch instead. Kiff, Barry, and Principal Secretary then escort Harry back to school.
