"Club Book" is the second segment of the fifth episode of the first season of Kiff. It is the tenth segment overall.
Synopsis[]
Kiff thinks the library should be loud, but it quickly backfires.
Plot[]
At a meeting of the Book Club in the Table Town Public Library, Kiff is unable to read without shouting in excitement and is repeatedly shushed by the librarian, Miss Moufflé. Annoyed, Kiff storms a town hall meeting and persuades Glarbin to put her in charge of the library by promising to raise the library's enjoyment numbers by banning shushing. With Kiff now legally in charge of the library, Moufflé returns to her old profession as a soufflé baker. Kiff declares that the Table Town Public Library is now a loud library and encourages its patrons to read loudly.
Kiff begins to see the downside of her new policy when she finds herself too distracted by various noises to read properly, but is unable to bring herself to shush anyone. The patrons eventually turn the library into a club called Club Book, even ripping apart the Book Club's banner to create a banner for the club. The rest of the Book Club, including Barry, are driven away by the chaos. Kiff reaches her breaking point and tries shushing away the noise, to no avail.
Kiff visits Miss Moufflé's bakery and asks for Moufflé's help in restoring order to the library, admitting that turning the library loud was a mistake. Moufflé agrees to help, and the two enter the library through a basement window. Moufflé reveals that in case of "shushmergencies", the basement has a "hush room" stocked with silencing equipment, which they use to soothe and tire out the library's patrons, who then leave. Afterwards, Moufflé is put back in charge of the library, and as a compromise, she allows Kiff and the Book Club to use the hush room for loud reading.
