I only paint that which is true... and nobody likes the truth.
Ghost Wolf, "Ghost Wolf's Art"
Ghost Wolf is a recurring character in the series Kiff. He is an ancient entity who lives on a mountain in the Outskorts, as well as an amateur artist.
Profile[]
Ghost Wolf is an ancient entity who lives in a cave atop a mountain in the Outskorts of Table Town. He plays a protective role on the mountain, sensing the presence of lost travelers and shepherding them to safety. The sound of Ghost Wolf's "emergency howl" alerts rescue helicopters to the presence of people in need of rescuing from the mountain.
Appearance[]
Ghost Wolf is a white wolf with a black nose, the rings around his eyes being the same color. As he is a ghost, he floats and is surrounded by a ghostly blue aura. He possesses ghostly abilities such as flight, teleportation, invisibility, and intangibility, and is also capable of temporarily passing these abilities onto organic beings. While painting, Ghost Wolf wears a pink bathrobe.
Personality[]
Although he seems scary at first glance, Ghost Wolf is actually a benevolent creature who guides lost travelers to safety. In "Totally Table Town", Kiff and her friends encounter him on his mountain and flee from him in fear, but later discover that he only intended to give them back their lost wireless speaker. In this appearance, he communicates only in grunts and howls.
He later has a more prominent role in "Ghost Wolf's Art", where it is revealed that he has two modes of communication: through wordless grunts which he translates into English to others by manifesting floating captions, and through spoken English, which he uses for most of the episode when talking to Kiff and Barry (after having initially used the first mode because he was "not aware of at what age non-ghost children become literate", according to him).
In "Ghost Wolf's Art", Ghost Wolf is revealed to be a talented artist, able to paint and sculpt what he sees with startling clarity. He claims to only paint "the truth", and fittingly, his paintings are all honest depictions of real Tabletonians. He is nonetheless very humble about his talent, noting that he creates art for personal expression rather than praise, and being initially hesitant to publicly display his work. Ghost Wolf is also an avid horticulturist who maintains a rich garden of ferns in his cave.
Relationships[]
Kiff Chatterley and Barry Buns[]
In "Totally Table Town", Kiff takes her friends to Ghost Wolf's mountain to film a music video there, despite being warned about his presence. Upon seeing Ghost Wolf, the children flee from him in terror and end up lost on the mountain. He eventually catches up to them, but to their surprise, he simply returns their lost wireless speaker and leaves peacefully. His intervention leads to the children being spotted and rescued by a passing helicopter. At the end of the episode, Ghost Wolf says (via a caption) that Kiff and her friends have taught him the power of civic pride.
Wanting to thank Ghost Wolf for his help, Kiff and Barry return to Ghost Wolf's cave in "Ghost Wolf's Art". The two meet Ghost Wolf and learn of his artistic skill after seeing his amazing painting of Kiff, Barry, and their friends. Wanting to convince Ghost Wolf that the world is ready to see his art, Kiff commissions ten paintings from him and secretly organizes an art show of his work. Barry becomes Ghost Wolf's apprentice, and the two fly through Table Town to find inspiration for the paintings by observing people's everyday lives. At the show, Ghost Wolf's subjects are at first offended by his paintings of them doing private activities, but they end up bonding with the other attendees over said activities, and the show is a success. Ghost Wolf later invites Barry to continue his apprenticeship in the summer.
