"Kiff Is Good at Sports" is the first segment of the twenty-seventh episode of the first season of Kiff. It is the fifty-third segment overall.
Synopsis[]
Kiff discovers a hidden talent and finds out she is good at sports.
Plot[]
At school, Kiff signs herself and Barry up for discus, thinking that they will be joining a club dedicated to having discussions. Upon visiting the sports field for their first discus meeting, the two learn that discus is actually a sport and decide to quit. Before leaving, Kiff throws back a discus, which travels an impressive distance and lands atop a tree. Seeing that Kiff is a natural at the sport, Principal Secretary, the coach of the track and field team, shows Kiff that Table Town Middle School has never won a sports trophy and convinces her to remain with the team, with Barry also staying despite his lack of sporting talent. At her first track meet, Kiff wins her school their first trophy with her discus skills and becomes famous around Table Town, but she soon grows tired of her fame.
During a school pep rally, Principal Secretary unveils an expensive new trophy case and a commemorative statue of Kiff, who he believes will finally lead Table Town Middle School to victory against Tuft Pierre at their next track meet, where a much bigger trophy will be awarded. Preoccupied with sports, Kiff forgets to do her book report on B.O. Wulf and fails to submit it in class on the day of the track meet. However, Miss Deer Teacher intends to give Kiff an A grade anyway, telling Kiff that Principal Secretary has exempted her from the assignment due to her athleticism. Feeling that sports have gotten in the way of her academics, Kiff tells Principal Secretary that she is quitting the team and will not be competing that evening, despite his offer to give her more As.
Kiff sits in the bleachers and reads her copy of B.O. Wulf during the track meet. Table Town Middle School and Tuft Pierre eventually end up in a 9–9 tie, with the deciding event being the discus contest. With Kiff unavailable and everyone else on the team having already competed, Principal Secretary has no choice but to send Barry to play. Meanwhile, the Tuft Pierre students have paid an adult discus champion to compete for them, despite the track meet being intended for juvenile athletes.
After a cheerleading intermission by Helen, Barry feels motivated to compete, only to find himself unable to even lift the discus. Kiff finally rejoins the team on the condition that she be given an F grade for her book report. She scores the final point to win the track meet for Table Town Middle School, then decides to walk away from sports altogether. The trophy is displayed in the school hallway the next day, to Principal Secretary's satisfaction.

Cultural references[]
- A parody of the theme from the 1981 sports drama film Chariots of Fire plays throughout the episode.
- A drawing of Kiff in the style of Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is shown. The text on the drawing's upper left side reads "Scriurus carolinesis", a modification of "Sciurus carolinensis", the binomial name for the eastern gray squirrel.
- The new trophy case that Principal Secretary purchases is called "The 'We Are the Champions' Case", referencing the 1977 song "We Are the Champions" by Queen.
- B.O. Wulf is a parody of the epic poem Beowulf.
- The statue of Kiff is based on the Discobolus by Myron.
Continuity[]
- Kiff and Barry are seen wearing the same sneakers they previously wore in "Road Trip".
- Marching band versions of the songs "Kids with a Calling" (from "Brunch DJ") and "So Chunky" (from "Friendship in the Time of Cheese Caves") are heard at the track meets.
- Kiff is seen wearing her "yikeseeola" shirt.
- After flying off into the sky at the end of "Weekly Grocery Shop", the Slimmy P statue is seen floating in outer space, still on its skateboard. A brief snippet of the song "The Ballad of Slimmy P", from the same episode, is heard when the statue appears.
Errors[]
- At the first track meet, Gareth is initially seen wearing a yellow Table Town School shirt, which then changes to a black Table Town School shirt; after Renée throws the shot put ball, he is once again seen wearing the yellow shirt.
- After the Tuft Pierre discus player throws the discus, Billiam is briefly seen without a nose.
